Treadmills
Treadmills for small rooms: belt length, motor and folding
Walking and running ask different things of the same machine, and the footprint decides whether you actually use it.
Walking and running are different jobs
The running surface decides how a treadmill feels. Belts under about 50 inches are comfortable for walking and brisk incline work; runners usually want 55 inches or more so the stride is not cut short. Deck width matters more than most people expect once you add arm swing.
Continuous versus peak motor ratings
Peak figures describe a brief maximum; the continuous rating describes what the motor can hold for a long session. Compare continuous ratings, and match them to the heaviest user and the fastest pace the machine will see.
Footprint, folding and ceiling height
Measure the deck as positioned, not as folded, and leave room behind the belt for a safe step-off. Add your height, the running deck height and at least a foot of clearance beneath the ceiling before committing to a spot. Many folding designs still need a hand to lift and lower them.
Belt, cushioning and maintenance
Cushioning is a preference: softer decks feel gentler on joints, firmer decks feel more like outdoor running. Belts need lubrication on the schedule the maker specifies, and tracking drifts if the machine is not level.
How we compare them
Our comparison rows cover belt size, continuous motor rating, incline range and folded footprint. See the treadmill comparison.

How to pick a cordless drill driver for the work you actually do
Voltage describes the battery platform, not what the tool can do. These are the specifications that decide whether a drill drives a long screw cleanly and bores a straight hole.
